Organic Mullein has quickly become one of our best-selling herbs because of its incredible benefits for everything from COPD to bronchitis! However, it's also one of our products that gets the most questions. If you're new to Mullein or want to learn something new, you've come to the right place!
Where does mullein come from?
Mullein comes from a flowering plant often called the greater mullein or Verbascum thapsus. Mullein is native to Europe, northern Africa, and Asia but has been introduced to the Americas and Australia more recently. The part of the plant that is used for tea and medicinal benefits is the leaves.
What are the benefits of Mullein?
Mullein is often used for any conditions related to the lungs and respiratory system. As a natural expectorant, mullein is great to clear mucus from the lungs and make coughs more productive. Mullein is also a demulcent meaning it creates a soothing and anti-inflammatory coating over mucus membranes. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, please contact your doctor prior to consuming any new products.
Why do different bags of mullein vary in appearance?
Because the mullein we sell is organic and sourced from different locations, batches may vary in color, fluffiness, and leaf size. Our Organic Mullein sells quicker than almost any other product meaning we have to have multiple suppliers to keep up with demand. Organic products, especially herbs, vary in their appearance because there are no pesticides or byproducts used to ensure uniform growth. The variance in appearance has no effect on the benefits of the herb and is great proof that it is an organically grown ingredient.
This is an example of very fluffy, green mullein.
This is an example of a darker, less fluffy mullein.
Both of these batches of Organic Mullein are completely safe, effective, and come from the same plant.

What's the best way to drink mullein?
Organic Mullein has very little flavor and color to it so don't be surprised if your cup of tea has a very light yellow tint and not much flavor. The great thing about its light flavor is you can add it to any tea for an extra boost of benefits! A popular way to enjoy our Organic Mullein is mixed with our Organic Peppermint for flavor or our Organic Lung Health Tea for extra lung and respiratory benefits. However, you can mix Organic Mullein with any tea you enjoy. Simply add a teaspoon of mullein to your tea bag or infuser, add a teaspoon of your other tea of choice, steep for the recommended time, and enjoy!
