Meet Karen: The Owner of Benbrook Tea and Wellness
Karen didn’t initially set out to open a tea shop, but she always wanted to help people feel better and feel connected. During COVID, when anxiety was high and connection was scarce, she found comfort in tea, movement, and small moments of calm. Working from home in a quiet house, she turned her desk toward the backyard, listening to birds while sipping teas that helped soothe her stomach and settle her nerves. As a longtime group fitness instructor suddenly unable to teach in person, being indoors felt especially challenging, so Karen brought wellness outside hosting classes at the local park, creating safe spaces for people to move, breathe, and connect.
After the pandemic, Karen found herself at a crossroads. A conversation with a friend helped spark her dream idea. She would open a tea shop with a wellness room. As a familiar face in the City of Benbrook, Karen noticed how many community conversations were happening in coffee shops, and thought, there has to be more options. She envisioned something different: a space that felt homey, cozy, and welcoming. This would be a place where people could gather, try tea, and truly connect. With the support of her husband, two sons, and the surrounding community, Benbrook Tea and Wellness came to life. Today, everyone who walks through the door is greeted with a warm “welcome in,” and it’s not uncommon for regulars to help newcomers explore the teas.
When the shop hums with conversation across tables, Karen knows she’s created exactly what she hoped for, a space where no one feels alone and connection is always brewing.
